Applications for the 2027 Training Orchestra Courses are now open!

Course Details

New for 2027, the EYO Training Orchestra Course is a two-day non-auditioned, non-residential course for primary school aged instrumentalists in P3-P7.

Course venue: St George’s School, Edinburgh

Dates:

Course 1 - Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April 2027, 11am-4pm each day

Course 2 - Friday 2 and Saturday 3 July 2027, 11am-4pm each day

Choose your dates - the content of both courses will be the same!

Who Can Apply

We welcome applications from young musicians who:

  • are in Primary 3 - Primary 7 (recommended P4-7 for wind and brass)

  • play an orchestral instrument (strings, woodwind, brass or percussion)

    • percussionists will be introduced to orchestral instruments during the course so this programme is open to those currently learning drum kit

  • are working between Grade 1 and Grade 3 standard (formal exams are not required)

  • If you are a pianist interested in learning percussion, please contact us.

What to Expect

Come together with other young musicians and experience two days of ensemble playing! You can expect to:

  • play in a wind band or string orchestra

  • learn from supportive professional tutors

  • discover the excitement of ensemble playing

And finish with a celebratory sharing concert for family and friends.

Course Fees and Financial Support

Course fee: £120

  • A non-refundable deposit of £40 will be required to confirm your place

  • The balance of £80 should be paid no later than end February (April course) or end of May (July course).

  • For bursaries and sibling discounts, please read on.

Sibling Discount and Financial Support

  • In families with multiple applicants, the second and subsequent participants will pay a reduced fee of £100 per person (deposit £40, balance £60)

  • EYO is committed to ensuring that its courses are accessible to all, and financial assistance up to 100% is available to applicants after a place is offered.

April Course 1: 31 January 2027

July Course 2: 01 May 2027

Places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis.

Should any instrument become over-subscribed, a waiting list will be in operation, and you will be notified when a space becomes available.
