Alison Green

Alison joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as Second Bassoon in 1990, following several years as Principal Bassoon with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. She taught for many years at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and remains deeply committed to music education.

When Covid brought live performance to a halt, Alison and her family decided to get a dog, now a firm member of the household and she enjoys spending time outdoors on long dog walks.

A former member of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra (EYO), she is delighted to return as a coach, working with the talented young bassoonists who attend the courses. She is also an active participant in the SCO ReConnect project, which brings live music into hospitals for people living with dementia. In addition, Alison helps organise the SCO Tea Dances which are short, intimate concerts for people with dementia, performed by a group of ten SCO musicians.

The repertoire spans classical works through to Scottish folk tunes and music from further afield.

In her free time, Alison is a keen swimmer and has raised funds for Diabetes UK on two separate occasions
